Worm composting has several advantages over traditional composting methods. Firstly, it requires less space and can be done indoors or outdoors, making it suitable for urban areas with limited land availability. Additionally, vermicompost produced through this process contains higher levels of beneficial microorganisms compared to regular compost. These microorganisms contribute to healthier soil by improving its structure and fertility while suppressing harmful pathogens.

Apart from these strategies focused on diverting organic waste at the farm level, there are also broader initiatives aimed at reducing food waste throughout the supply chain. Food loss and wastage occur at various stages – from production and transportation to retail and consumer levels. By implementing better storage techniques, improving logistics systems, educating consumers about proper food handling practices, and redistributing surplus food through food banks or charities instead of letting it go to waste, we can significantly reduce overall organic waste generated in the agriculture sector.
