These systems work by circulating fluid through underground pipes that extract heat from the earth or release it back into it, depending on the season’s needs.

One major obstacle is high upfront costs associated with drilling wells and setting up infrastructure for power plants or residential installations. However, ongoing research efforts are focused on developing cost-effective technologies that will make geothermal more accessible for a larger number of communities worldwide.

Another challenge lies in identifying suitable locations with adequate geothermal resources close to population centers, where demand is highest. By conducting thorough assessments of subsurface conditions before investing in projects, developers can ensure optimal resource utilization while minimizing environmental risks.
