Before the advent of modern agriculture, farmers used simple methods to maintain their soil’s fertility. Composting is another nature-friendly way for farmers to improve their soils’ fertility by recycling organic matter like food scraps or yard waste into nutrient-rich fertilizer for plants. It also reduces landfill waste by diverting organic materials from being wasted in landfills where they emit methane gas – a potent greenhouse gas contributing significantly to climate change.

Soil health is crucial not only for agricultural purposes but also for reducing carbon emissions through carbon sequestration i.e., storing atmospheric CO2 underground via healthy soils rich in organic matter which can absorb more carbon dioxide than depleted soils.

In conclusion, soil health and fertility are vital for sustaining life on earth. While modern farming practices have been damaging to our soils, there is growing awareness and adoption of sustainable agricultural methods that prioritize soil health over short-term yields. By adopting these practices, we can ensure healthy soils for generations to come while promoting a healthier planet overall.
