FCEVs do not suffer from range limitations like BEVs because they use compressed hydrogen gas tanks instead of bulky batteries; thus making them lighter than electric vehicles while offering similar ranges on a single refill. It also takes just a few minutes to fill up an FCEV compared to several hours of charging time needed for BEVs.
Apart from transportation, hydrogen fuel cells are also ideal for powering homes and businesses. By using a fuel cell combined heat and power (CHP) system, these devices can generate electricity and heat simultaneously, making them highly efficient in energy usage. In addition, CHP systems reduce the reliance on grid-supplied electricity while lowering carbon dioxide emissions.
However, despite its numerous advantages, hydrogen fuel cells have some drawbacks that prevent it from being widely adopted. One significant challenge is the cost of producing hydrogen gas since it requires large amounts of energy to extract it from water or natural gas.
Another challenge is the lack of infrastructure required to produce, distribute and store hydrogen gas. The current network of refueling stations worldwide is far less than those present for gasoline-powered vehicles. However, this obstacle has begun fading with countries such as Japan investing heavily in building refueling infrastructure networks.

It’s high efficiency level coupled with its versatility makes it ideal in addressing issues related to climate change by reducing greenhouse gases emissions from traditional combustion engines significantly; however there remains much work left in creating more affordable production methods while also expanding infrastructure networks globally before widespread adoption can occur.
